We are deeply saddened to share the news of Franklin’s recent passing. Franklin was an integral part of the practice, a committed advocate for the rights of immigrants, and in a career of nearly 30 years at the Bar he touched the lives of numerous people with his service and love. He will be sorely missed.
Franklin was admitted to practice in the State of New York and was a member of the American Bar Association. He attended Hunter College where he was awarded a Bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude (top one percent) in 1978. While an undergraduate, he was selected for membership in and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Franklin attended Brooklyn Law School and he was awarded the degree of Juris Doctor, cum laude (top ten percent) in 1981.
Franklin joined Polatsek, Counsellors At Law in October 1989. Mr. Blanco’s area of legal practice included all aspects of immigration and nationality law, he was a Renaissance man of law and philosophy. During his more than 20 years of practice with Polatsek, Counsellors At Law, Mr. Blanco represented clients in cases across the entire spectrum of U.S. immigration law.
Franklin was fluent in English, his native Spanish and Portuguese and attained working knowledge of French and Italian. He appeared regularly on television and participated in radio programs speaking on issues affecting the immigrant community.
In addition to his long and distinguished legal career, Franklin produced several theatrical plays in Spanish as well as musical events in South Florida. An avid lover of the arts, he attended the prestigious acting school “HB Studio” on Bank Street, New York. Franklin often said that acting on stage and lawyering (particularly in the court room) are similar with the exception that on stage there is a script by a playwright while in lawyering the “script” is written by the lawyer.
Next year in Havana!
